Call for Applications: EmergeOndo Policy and Solutions Hackathon

Are you a Software Developer, Creative Designer or you are enthusiastic about Education, Agriculture, Business, Policy, Sales or Renewable Energy? Are you interested in using technology to drive social change? The EmergeOndo Policy and Solutions Hackathon may just be that opportunity to get the big break.

Winning teams would be competing for up to USD 5,000 in cash prizes for solutions around any of the four thematic areas: Agricultural accessibility, Business Linkage, Renewable and Clean Energy and Education.

The Hackathon which will take place from the 6-8th of December in Akure, the Ondo State capital will feature teams made up of 6-10 individuals competing for an opportunity to incubate their solutions in partnership with one of the three innovation hubs in the city and for their solution to be adopted by the State Government across relevant agencies.

The Ondo State Government is partnering with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) via Make-IT in Africa—a programme GIZ is implementing on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development—and the technology NGO,Emerging Communities Africa to host the EmergeOndo Hackathon with the goal of identifying state-led solutions to encourage entrepreneurship and increase employment outcomes.


Make-IT is already prioritizing interventions on the policy level with relation to our work with the National Technology Development Agency to support policies that would drive entrepreneurship and innovation in Nigeria. It was only natural that we would be interested in supporting Governor Akeredolu’s efforts to increase youth employment within his state. The EmergeOndo Hackathon will be the first of its kind in the state and we’re keen to see what solutions come from the public and how these solutions would be implemented by the state.”  –Chiemelie Umenyiora (Regional Coordinator for Make-IT in Africa)
