Walk4SMEs debuts in Akure with over 500 startup founders and small business owners

Over 500 Startup founders and small business owners in Akure converged on the Ondo State capital for a networking and collaboration initiative tagged Walk4SMEs.

The short morning walk which culminated in several other activities was organized by Better Business Communities, a Non-profit led by Kitan David. It is focused on helping SME founders learn and share experiences around creating value, innovating and solving problems across different sectors.

While delivering his welcome address, Kitan explained that the event is to show support for small business owners in the area and improved business relationship within the ecosystem. “I realized that the problems of one business lies with another business and hence, the need to connect, promote our businesses and drive more solutions to promote the Akure business ecosystem for us to succeed together,” he explained.

It was an opportunity to network, share ideas, share contacts and have fun while doing it—as the walk also had a work out session led by instructors from dichefit gym.

The first lady of Ondo State, Her Excellency, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu who participated in the 2.4km walk emphasised that young people and entrepreneurs must rise up to the task of developing the state as the current administration of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi is committed to improving the ease of doing business.

The walk was a melting point for politicians (Member-elect, Ondo State House of Assembly, Toluwani Borokini; Member-elect, House of Representatives, Tajudeen Adeyemi Adefisoye—Small Alhaji), young entrepreneurs, business owners, social workers and change champions in Akure.

It was an impressive initiative by the organisers of the event.

It helps to create a bridge between startups, SMEs and well established organizations and individuals (government parastatal & political office holders). It also builds synergy between business owners and consultants in various industries and sector (banking, Information Tech et all) – Sola Kenny (One of the startup founders at Walk4SMEs)

After piloting in Ondo State(Sponsored by Klick Konnect, the Ondo State First Lady, CSI, Qui Chinese, Ceci Mega Plaza), Walk4SMEs plans to expand to other cities across the country.
