Maruwa joins the list of newly added Emojis for 2019
Yippi! Keke Maruwa is part of the newly added emojis for 2019 approved by the Unicode Consortium for platforms.
The popular transportation medium referred to as Auto Rickshaw joins the list of 230 new emojis approved for this year. The additions include previously drafted candidates such as a flamingo, Guide Dog, Waffle, Hindu Temple, Sari, Mate etc. Circles and squares also gained new colours in this release with white heart emoji available for the first time.
This will be the sixth major emoji update since 2014 with skin support added to the Unicode Standard in 2015, women representation was increased in 2016 while Gender inclusive people and hair colours were added in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
However, 2019 broadens the scope for people with various disabilities to be represented, a gender-inclusive couple and emojis that permit a mix of skin tones for people holding hands.
With Unicode’s announcement, this indicates that all documentation required for vendors to implement the new emoji set is now completed. The necessary relevant data files, technical documentation and updated charts to be used by developers to add emoji support to operating systems, apps and well platforms throughout 2019 have been released.
