IBTechMeetUp: Building an Ecosystem
In response to a tweet by Mark Essien(Hotels.ng) to pick 6 IT clusters in Nigeria; I chose Yaba in Lagos, Ogbomosho and Ibadan in Oyo state and definitely, Akure in Ondo State. The on-going efforts to bring together tech players in Ibadan (IBTechMeetUp) and Akure(AkureTechUp) with the attendant exertions by organisations in the ecosystem to deliver world class solutions helped me make up my mind. I will talk about Akure another time, for now; let’s stick with the ancient and pace setting city of Ibadan.
This time, it’s not about the wonderful Amala spots, the historical wealth like – Cocoa House, WNTV, University of Ibadan etc but the IBTechMeetUp for July at Eccohub, Bodija, Ibadan. It was an exciting atmosphere with a great mix of technology professionals, entrepreneurs, developers, software and hardware engineers discussing the nitty-gritty of managing and scaling a start-up.
The aim of the IBTechMeetUp is to create a sustainable ecosystem of people in technology and enthusiasts in Ibadan and beyond – Rasheed Ridwan (Community Manager, IBTechMeetUp)
CEO, Switch.ng ,Sherrif Shittu was the Key Note speaker, while Olumayowa Oshidero(Head Strategy TinklingD) and Goke Obasa(Lead Engineer Cotta and Cush Limited) were panellists at the event.
Shittu tasked participants who were working on building a start up to validate an idea and then build with blind faith , taking every failure as a lesson .
“Continue to build until you achieve success” – Sherrif Shittu
Obasa emphasised the need to build talent to develop the Ibadan ecosystem while Mayowa stressed the need for more collaboration among members in the community.
I feel this is an interesting step for the Ibadan Ecosystem… maybe, soonest we will get to hear of mind blowing, pace setting collaborative innovations from the City of Ibadan.
